Men’s Jeans Guide

25 Feb Posted by in Fashion Tips | Comments Off on Men’s Jeans Guide

Denim’s New Look is more refined, slimmer and for fun – shorter!

Ditch the “dad” jeans that are baggy and “Walmart” blue.

It’s time to upgrade your jeans wardrobe.

I hear over and over from you guys – you love to wear jeans, and you dream of a world where you could wear them every day!  If this aspect of your wardrobe is such a integral element,  either casually or if you are lucky in your work world, lets look at the details:

1. What is your style?

Are you very traditional or can kick it up a bit with some distressing in the fabric?

If you are slim, a narrow jean with a turned up cuff is a great look.

What really makes this successful below is the beautiful shoe.  The stripe sock is fun and whimsical, and I’d love you to try it, but the shoe makes this jean worn by a man of style.

Never wear jeans with athletic sneakers, choose a leather shoe, suede, woven, even boat shoes over sneakers every time.

2.  What is your body type?

Don’t let all the jeans jargon confuse you – Slim, slim/straight, straight, relaxed, relaxed/straight, classic, standard.

Basically most companies make jeans in a relaxed, slouchier fit, a straight tapered fit, and a narrow slim fit.

Based on the purpose of the jean choose a fit that is most appropriate – more casual is looser and more “going out” is slimmer.  Skinny jeans are for the runway, but slim jeans are a great look on average to slim guys.

If  you have a bit of a tummy opt for a proportionally balanced boot cut jean – ever more fabulous when worn with a boot!

Take them home, wash and dry them and then have them hemmed if necessary.  This picture found on the internet

3.  The Fabric or  “Wash”

Jeans “technology” has created amazing washes and finishes for cotton trousers – aka jeans.

Whether you like some markings on your jeans, or some distressing (fancy word for holes) know that more classic washes will stand the test of time, and let you wear those favorites a long time.  Choose darker colors for more formal, elegant, refined occasions, and lighter washes for more casual and sporty.

Also the finish of the fabric can be given a polished look – a very slight touch of sheen which is appropriate for going out in the evening wear.

A pair of blue jeans with a bit of lycra or spandex in the fabric will ensure a bit of a stretch, offering a bit of extra comfort and flexibility.  Consider going to a slimmer jean, or down a size with a jean with some stretch – gives you a slimmer line when standing, and maintains comfort when sitting.

These AG jeans carried by J Hilburn have the best of the best – slim lines,  polished finished, a touch of lycra and a hip cuffed look.  Don’t dig the cuffs?  J Hilburn will credit you $20 bucks to pay for hemming.  My clients LOVE these jeans.
